P and P #8

In chapters 46-50, Elizabeth receives a letter from Jane that says that Lydia has run away with Wickham to get married, and that they were traced almost to London, but they then just disappeared. Mr. Darcy then appears and asks what has happened. Elizabeth explains and then Mr. Darcy then takes his leave. Elizabeth and the Gardiners rush back to Longbourn. When they arrive the trio is greeted hastily and Elizabeth rushes to her mother who is such a hypochondriac. Then Elizabeth reads the letter sent by Lydia just before her departure with Mr. Wickham. In the next few days no mail comes from Mr. Bennet and the whole town now thinks of Mr. Wickham as a demon from hell. Then Mr. Bennet arrives at home and tells his daughters that he has found no trace of Lydia or Wickham. Then Mr. Bennet receives a letter from Mr. Gardiner who tells Mr. Bennet that Lydia and Wickham will be married soon. Jane is a little happy but Elizabeth doesn’t think that Wickham will actually marry Lydia. Then Mr. Bennet receives another letter from Gardiner stating that Lydia and Wickham are married and returning home soon.
