assignment # 3

I think Mr. Collins is kind of slow, in a sense that he doesn't really know what's going on. It seems like he's going to propose to Elizabeth because she's the one that he wants to be with and he asks her instead of all the other sisters to walk with him. Mr. Collins talks a lot, and it kind of gets annoying after you read everything he has to say. I think that Mr. Wickham is trying to get to Elizabeth because he holds a grudge against Mr. Darcy, because it seems as though he and Dracy don't like each other. I think he would play a role in a fight between Mr. Darcy, Mr. Wickham, and Mr. Collins, for the love of Elizabeth. Elizabeth might be acting prejudice towards Mr. Wickham by trying to be with him because it seems like he and Darcy hate each other, and she is still angry at Darcy for insulting her at the ball. So i think that Elizabeth is going to try to make Darcy jealous and angry at Mr. Wickham and cause a problem. Even though there is already one there. She's juss going to try to make it bigger.

Pride and Prejudice assignment 5

The humor of Mr. Collins and Lady Catherine de Bourgh, is that they're very clueless. They don't seem to be very smart and they like to criticize other people that are not as fortunate as they are. The way it's funny is because they really must not know what they're saying because they just say very stupid things. Jane Austen might have been criticizing the stubbornness or snootiness that people of that era would act if they were wealthy. Jane Austen is criticizing about the way that Mr. Collins and Lady Catherine aren't very smart and yet they like to show off their money and they like to call out people that aren't very rich. I found that very stubborn of them and prejudice because they don't know much about these people and they go off expecting that the lower class is stupid, and dirty. Something else I think that Jane Austen would've criticized is that some wealthy people aren't very smart themselves, and some are prejudice of lower class people because they think that they are superior to everyone without much money.

P and P #4

In the midst of the uproar over Mr. Collins proposal to Elizabeth, Charlotte Lucas, Elizabeth’s best friend begins hanging out with Mr. Collins more and more until Mr. Collins proposes to Charlotte. Charlotte excepts his proposal and she accepts. Elizabeth is appalled that her friend married for money and security rather than love. Then all of a sudden the residents of Netherfield disappear and Jane receives a letter in the mail from Caroline Bingley. The letter states that Mr. Darcy and the Bingleys have all gone to London on a little business. Also from what the letter says, Ms. Bingley hopes that her brother will marry Darcy’s sister and Jane becomes distraught. In the next few days another letter arrives from Ms. Bingley stating that the Bingleys and Mr. Darcy will never ever return to Netherfield. Jane becomes increasingly depressed. Elizabeth becomes extremely angry with the Bingley sisters and Mr. Darcy. She becomes like hulk angry and blames the 2 sisters and Mr. Darcy for interfering in Jane’s happiness. Mr. Wickhum comes around the Bennets abode a lot to see Jane and she becomes increasingly happy to see him. They get drawn closer and closer to each other in my opinion.

P&P #2 chapters 6-9

From what we have read so far, I believe Elizabeth is over-confident and annoying. She has a feisty personally, which people find intriguing, so they are drawn to her at first but people don't want to stick around ice queen's for too long. Elizabeth also seems two-faced and shameless. I perceived Elizabeth as two-faced when she claimed she was concerned about her sister being ill for so long, I believe she was envious of the invitation and she only went to visit her sister to lurk around, acting worried is always a good excuse to find out more information on a person and what is happening to them. Of course a girl like Jane got invited to Netherfield she has a good heart, rather than being heartless. I can't stand girls like Elizabeth I feel like later in the book her shameless personality will bring her to shame.

P&P #1

After reading the first five chapters of Pride and Prejudice I was confused on why the girls would be so stunned at the fact of one new gentleman moving into they town they reside in. I understand it is great that he is loaded but, do they live in the middle of nowhere and one man moving nearby could cause this much excitement? I really like that they have balls all the time, it is the one thing about the olden times that I find very intriguing. That they got to go to these, and that people had more self-respect for themselves, people were not trashy they were elegant back then, more girls should act that way now. I think the mom is kind of crazy, each daughters suitors should be their own deal not some sort of weird mother daughter bonding experience. I don't like Mr. Darcy so far, I don't care who you are, how much money you have or who you are related to, it does not give you any reason to be arrogant like he is. I feel like this book could be a reality check for most of the teenagers in America these days about how to get their head on straight.

P and P #3

In the next chapters of Pride and Prejudice, the residents of Netherfield along with Ms. Eliza Bennet gather in the drawing room and have a very heated discussion about characters, and they compare Mr. Bingley to Mr. Darcey. Later in the week Jane begins to feel better and joins the Bingley’s, Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy in the drawing room even though Mr. Bingley takes Jane away on one of their love tours through the mind. The next day Jane and Elizabeth leave Netherfield and go back to their house. When Jane and Elizabeth arrive there, their father, Mr. Bennet explains that his cousin will be coming to town. Then Mr. Collins arrives at the Bennet’s home and immidieatley begins, a sort of political take over of the house. Mr. Collins then says that the Bennets cannot afford to have a cook on staff and Mr. Bennet is amused by this. Then Kitty and Lydia are shocked that Mr. Collins doesn’t read novels and when he tries to read the two silly girls one of his books, Lydia acts very rude. After Elizabeth has met Mr. Wickum, she becomes quite taken with him. Eventually Mr. Wickum tells Jane the past that he and Mr. Darcy share. Then Mr. Bingley throws a huge ball where Mr. Darcy actually dances with Elizabeth. The day after the ball however, Mr. Collins proposes to Elizabeth, but she politley refuses. Mrs. Bennet is appaled while Mr. Bennet is rooting for Elizabeth all the way.

PP: Assignment 5

So far, I have liked the book as I’ve stated before, but after these last couple of chapters, I don’t know how to feel about it. I feel completely thrown off, because I was completely not expecting Elizabeth to think that she was not in love because of the lack of emotion she feels upon founding about Mr. Wickham and Miss King. I thought a first that to me like she seemed to like Mr. Wickham, and now it seems as if it is set in stone who she going to hook up with in the end, unless there is somebody else that has not come up yet in the in the story yet. On the other side though, it seem that Darcy would have been a more suitable fit for her, due to his money status. What seemed funny to me was how ridiculous Miss de Bourgh looked when she continued to interrogate her. I think that Jane Austen may have been trying to satirize the humor in the snootiness and pride of the upper-class citizens, as well as how stupid it makes them look. Despite slight disappointment of how things have recently turned out, I am slightly curious to know how the story changes now that Mr. Wickham appears to no longer be a factor. In addition, I am also curious to know what will happen to Jane, and how their mother might feel about this all.

PP:Assignment 4

I think that the book is developing nicely. I certainly was not expecting so many surprises early on in the book. I definitely have another thought on Mr. Bingley after reading these last chapters. It seem like in every story that we have read or watched, one the main characters seems to be beaten to the punch at a time when it seems that things are going so well for them. I think one perfect example of this would be in Jane Eyre. When Jane and Rochester are about to be married, Jane unfortunately comes to find that he already has a wife. Could that is an altered form of that same type of plot? However, due to the recent events, I wonder if he is going to come back in some dramatic fashion. It does not seem like things appear to be going well for Jane, especially considering everything that has happened to her recently. I think it is going to be really interesting to see how Elizabeth’s emotions continue to change throughout the story now that Mr. Collins is out of the way. I think it will be interesting to see who she starts to like more and how that has an effect on the story.

Assignment 6 -- Pride and Prejudice, Chpts. 31-40 OR VII: 8-17

Why does Elizabeth think Mr. Darcy sabotaged Jane's chances of marrying Bingley? And what do you think of Mr. Darcy's proposal? Would you accept a proposal like that? In the letter that Darcy writes to Elizabeth, what does he reveal about Wickham? What is Elizabeth's reaction to that news?

Pride and Prejudice assignment 4

What i like about this book so far is that it's a book i wouldn't normally be interested in, but it still grabs my attention by adding humerus topics and making fun of the society in that era. Also, Jane Austen was pretty bold to call out the rules that people in that day were used to by making a woman character (Elizabeth) be so witty and smart, and able to out smart the adult males in the book. Also at the beginning of "Pride and Prejudice", she says that a man with a lot of money MUST be looking to get married. I think she wrote this because from a woman's perspective, they have to find a rich man to marry, or they won't be able to live very well. Another thing I like about this book is he way that Jane Austen describes the characters. Unlike Charlotte Bronte, Jane Austen uses dialog instead of long paragraphs to describe her characters. Also, the way that Darcy starts out thinking that Elizabeth was just stupid, dumb, and ugly and changes almost instantly into thinking, maybe there's more to that girl, and wow she has some pretty eyes. So overall I think that this book is a lot more fun to read then "Jane Eyre" because of the happiness shared in this book and the way Mr. Bingley behaves all the time.

Pride and Prejudice assignment 3

I think Mr. Collins is kind of stupid, in a sense that he doesn't really know what's going on.

Assignment 5 -- Pride and Prejudice, Chpts 26 - 30 OR VII: 3-7

P and P #2.

In these chapters of Pride and Prejudice, the Bennet’s go to another ball which the Bingley’s and Mr. Darcy attend. During the ball Elizabeth Bennet and her friend Charolette discuss Mr. Darcy and what he is like. Then when Mr. Darcy is asked to dance with Elizabeth he accepts but Elizabeth refuses. Later Jane is invited to dine with Mr. Bingley, and Jane’s mother tells Jane to take the horse and not the carriage because its going to rain and then Jane will have to spend the night at the Bingley’s, but then Jane gets a cold and she must stay at Nehterfield for a few days. There Elizabeth watches over Jane and eats dinner with the Bingley’s and Mr. Darcy and joins them in the drawing room every few nights. Eventually the Bennet family arrives at Netherfield and Elizabeth is overly embarrased at how her parents act in fron of her toward Mr. Bingley and Mr. Darcy. Mrs. Bennet is openly polite to Mr. Bingley and extremely rude to Mr. Darcy. Mr. Bingley then promises the Bennets that he will throw a ball as soon as Jane is better.

A2,P&P

In the next few chapters I am very surprised at how the characters act towards each other. It seems that everybody by now has begun to show their true colors and feelings about everything. Mr. Bennet is still the same non-chalant, laid back person who can only listen to what Mrs. Bennet has to say and all Mrs. Bennet can do is keep running her mouth. To me, Mrs. Bennet is a horrible mother. I could not believe that she would send her daughter Jane out in the cold rainy weather on horse back just to have lunch with two of the Bingley ladies. She wasn’t being fair at all and she set her up on purpose. And in conclusion she ended up with a terrible fever. Elizabeth turns out to be the only one who is concerned about her sister’s well being and decides to go visit her and that tells me she is the headstrong one of the family and that’s what I like about her. Now, I also find the people of the Bingley party very rude and mean. They are so quick to talk about someone and their appearance and I just thought that was uncalled for. They seem like a very snooty family. Mr. Darcy however, now is beginning to have some feelings for Elizabeth and even defends her when the Bingley’s start to talk about her and I find that very charming. But I knew sooner or later he was going to start liking her.
