Act IV Journal

When we first started read The Taming of the Shrew, I was really confused about what was going on because I did not have a clear understanding of what was going on because of all of the Shakespearean language. But as the play progress, I became more adjusted to it, and I started to understand the plot more. So far I like the play; I think that Pertruchio is doing a great, somewhat comical way of handling his plan to "tame" Katherine. My only question is if she will actually bend to his will and crack. I also think that despite how confusing it is, I like all of character disguises. I think that it contributes to the early idea of metamorphosis, because a large majority of the characters have transformed into other characters. I think that the two versions of the play that we have watched have also made the play more understandable because you can actually see what is going on. I think that the John Cleese version is a good example because each character actually changes in addition to their dialogue. However, I like the Re-Told version more because it has modern day humor between most of the characters, especially Petruchio and Katherine. Strangely, based on certain scenes, I think that certain scenes could give some reason for some believe that The Taming of the Shrew is somewhat sexist. I say that because I've noticed certain scenes, but I still do not think the whole play is misogynistic or sexist.
