TAMING OF THE SHREW -- WEEKEND BLOG, 300 WORDS: Feminism and the Shrew

Having read more than half of the play, now, including some of the more controversial scenes, I'd like you to read this summary of feminist criticism of "The Taming of the Shrew" and then follow the directions below.
http://www.enotes.com/shakespearean-criticism/taming-shrew

1. On a separate sheet of paper, which you will turn in to me on Monday, define the following words:
historiography
ideology
commodification
misogynistic
satire
patriarchal
flux
consternation
circumscribe
consensus
fraught
ironic
rapport
subjugate

2. Write 300 words responding to the reading. The author lists a number of ways that different critics have interpreted the play. You may choose one or two of those and agree or disagree with them. Or you may create your own theory as to why this play, compared to so much of Shakespeare's other work, seems sexist, maybe even misogynistic, to many readers.
