TOTS Act 3

In act 3, Lucentio thinks of a way to reveal his true identity to Bianca without the other tutor, Litio finding out. So what he does is pretends he explaining some Latin words and phrases when he’s really telling her who he is while Litio is on the side tuning his instrument. Bianca responds in the exact same way letting him know that she understands but in a way she doesn’t trust him or in my opinion is trying not to believe him. The day Katherine is supposed to be married she seems to be a little upset and runs off weeping. I think she weeps because she thinks that she is being stood up by Petruchio. I think that reveals that deep down inside she does have emotional feelings and is really not an evil person. It also lets us know that certain people can get the best of her. When Petruchio shows up at the wedding ceremony, he is dressed very exotic I should say. in other words he looks like a pirate who went crazy. From my understanding, he is wearing dirty underwear, an extremely large hat and other wild stuff with his unexplainable attire. I think he did that just to scare Katherine, which I think is very amusing.

  1. Lesa, your comment about Katherine having feelings that are hidden is very perceptive. I think the play itself doesn't necessarily tell us that, but both of the versions we've watched so far have interpreted it that way. I think people need to believe she is the way she is for a reason, not because she just IS that way.
Let me know how the No Fear Shakespeare works!
