#7

I am totally shocked by what just happened, I always thought Lydia to be kind of wacky and crazy but never expected her to pull a stunt like this. So, Jane writes to Elizabeth and tells her that their sister Lydia has run away with Mr. Wickham! Apparently, he worked his “hardworking little victim” act on her and she totally bought into it. They left without anyone but Kitty knowing and decided they were going to get married. This is even more surprising because Lydia’s family does not have all that much money, so Wickham would get nothing out of marrying her. This is quite unlike his character as we already know, he is a gold digger and would not benefit at all from Lydia. As Jane continues in her letter, everyone is looking for Lydia and desperate to find her. She old them she was going to one place, but them her parents find out she had intentions of going to another. I guess she was just trying to confuse them. Anyway, when Elizabeth reads this she get hysterical and fears for her sister. Mr. Darcy then comes to the rescue, and while Elizabeth goes through her panic attack, he is there for her and it is a lovely little bonding experience for the both of them as Mr. Darcy shows a little of his sensitive side and takes some blame for not warning the family of the “evil Wickham”. the matter is the somewhat solved by the unfortunate marriage of Lydia to Wickham and the family continues with heavy hearts.
