PP: Assignment 8

I must say out of all of the surprising changes all throughout the story that have all been caused from letters, I think that these letters were the most surprising and controversial so far. I think I was just as surprised as Elizabeth was once she read the first letter. I was completely not expecting to know that Lydia and Mr. Wickham were eloping. The second letter was a big deal because she found out that they had not married yet. In addition to that, if they did not marry, then the already tarnished reputation that her family has would be completely ruined. However, the more I thought about it, I was not as surprised. Thinking back to how thoughtless Lydia is in general, even for someone her age, it did not surprise that she would run off with a man with a very shady history. I think the main thing that surprised me the most is how much of a bad guy Mr. Wickham is turning out to be. It is almost as if he and Mr. Darcy have switched roles in the story. I could not believe that he was classified as a womanizer to some degree. I always liked Mr. Darcy and understood why he did not like Mr. Wickham based on what happened with Georgiana, but now I think his feelings are completely justified. I am very curious to see what Mr. Darcy does, considering the sly guy he is.
