P and P #11.

In chapters 60-62, Elizabeth, Darcy’s, Bingley’s, and Jane’s wedding day is approaching quickly. And after sending letters to all their known relatives, Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy receives letters of their own. Lady Catherine is in an uproar, the Collins family is going to arrive at the Lucas’s house soon, and Miss. Bingley is not all that happy, although she tries to act like she is. Then the wedding day is here and Jane and Bingley get married and Elizabeth and Darcy are married. Lady Catherine sends a very mean letter to Darcy and Elizabeth, that includes some very strong language.
I liked how everything worked out and Jane and Bingley were married, along with Elizabeth and Darcy. I would not change anything because, the books was very good and I thought that Lady Catherine getting put down was the best part of the book. I really liked this book overall. This book drew me in and I just stayed there. I really loved this book and I would highly recommend this book to just about anyone.

P and P #10

In chapters 56-59, Lady Catherine De Bourgh arrives at Longbourn, a week after Bingley’s engagement to Jane. Lady Catherine and Elizabeth take a walk and Lady Catherine starts to yell at Elizabeth about Mr. Darcy’s proposal to Elizabeth. Lady Catherine then proceeds to act snarky and snobby and continues to insult Elizabeth about her lifestyle, rank in society and about Lydia marrying Wickham. Elizabeth then storms away from Lady Catherine which greatly insults her. Lady Catherine then departs from Longbourn, and still continues to insult Elizabeth. Then Mr. Bennet then receives a letter from Mr. Collins who kind of says that Elizabeth was wrong in being rude to Lady Catherine, or he congratulates Elizabeth on standing up to Lady Cathering. Mr. Bennet was certainly happy with Elizabeth and congratulated her quite a lot. Then in the next few days, Mr. Bingley and Mr. Darcy arrive at Longbourn and take Jane and Elizabeth on a walk. Elizabeth is then proposed to a second time by Mr. Darcy and this time, she accepts. Later that night Elizabeth tells Jane of her acceptance of Mr. Darcy’s proposal and Jane can hardly believe it. The next day, Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy both ask for Mr. Bennet’s consent to their marriage, and he agrees.

P and P #9.

In chapters 51-55, Lydia returns home, married, with her new husband Mr. Wickham. When she arrives home, she immediately starts bragging about her marriage saying things like how nobody else in the family could have better luck than she. Elizabeth then learns that it was Mr. Darcy who paid for the wedding and not Mr. Gardiner. Mrs. Gardiner then sends a letter to Elizabeth confirming that Mr. Darcy paid for the wedding. Wickham and Elizabeth then take a walk together and discuss what went on when Wickham was in London with Lydia. Lydia then departs from Longbourn with Wickham. And then in the next few days, Mr. Bingley and Mr. Darcy arrive at Longbourn. Bingley and Darcy leave quickly and in the next week a large party is held at Longbourn, where Elizabeth starts to notice her feeling for Mr. Darcy growing and growing. Then Bingley arrives at Longbourn, alone and he finally proposes to Jane and Jane accepts. Then the Bennet’s congratulate Jane immensely on her good fortune.

P and P #8

In chapters 46-50, Elizabeth receives a letter from Jane that says that Lydia has run away with Wickham to get married, and that they were traced almost to London, but they then just disappeared. Mr. Darcy then appears and asks what has happened. Elizabeth explains and then Mr. Darcy then takes his leave. Elizabeth and the Gardiners rush back to Longbourn. When they arrive the trio is greeted hastily and Elizabeth rushes to her mother who is such a hypochondriac. Then Elizabeth reads the letter sent by Lydia just before her departure with Mr. Wickham. In the next few days no mail comes from Mr. Bennet and the whole town now thinks of Mr. Wickham as a demon from hell. Then Mr. Bennet arrives at home and tells his daughters that he has found no trace of Lydia or Wickham. Then Mr. Bennet receives a letter from Mr. Gardiner who tells Mr. Bennet that Lydia and Wickham will be married soon. Jane is a little happy but Elizabeth doesn’t think that Wickham will actually marry Lydia. Then Mr. Bennet receives another letter from Gardiner stating that Lydia and Wickham are married and returning home soon.

P and P #7.

In chapters 41-45 of Pride and Prejudice, Elizabeth has finally come home from Kent, and after being home for two week’s, Lydia is sent away to Brighton, to see all the officers that left Meryton. Then Mr. Wickham comes to Lounghborn and has a chat about Mr. Darcy with Elizabeth. Then after Mr. Wickham leaves Lounghborn, Elizabeth sets out with the Gardiners toward Pemberly. The home of Mr. Darcy and his sister. When the trio arrive at Pemberly they are greeted by the housekeeper and shown around the house. They then arrive in a room filled with sculptures of the family and everyone who lives at Pemberly. The Gardiners and Elizabeth are then told that Mr. Darcy and his sister will be coming back to Pemberly tomorrow. Then while Elizabeth is walking in the garden at Pemberly, she unexpectedly meets Mr. Darcy there and he acts very politely, like asking about her family and such. In the next two days, Elizabeth finally meets, Miss Darcy. Then the next day Elizabeth and the Gardiners, go to Pemberly for dinner and there they see, Mr. Bingley and his sisters. Miss Bingley, still doesn’t like Elizabeth very much.

P and P #6.

In chapters 21-40 of Pride and Prejudice, Elizabeth is introduced to Colonel Fitzwilliam, while in Kent. She also manages to see Mr. Darcy quite a few times while staying at the Collins abode. Elizabeth usually saw either Fitzwilliam or Mr. Darcy at church or when Elizabeth would take her walks. Elizabeth, the Lucas’s and the Collins are invited to Rosings for coffee, or tea, or something like that. While there, Lady Catherine seems very annoyed, that she had to invite Elizabeth and all the rest. Then Fitzwilliam approaches Elizabeth asks her to play the piano for him. While playing, Elizabeth and Fitzwilliam take a dive into the character of Mr. Darcy. Then in the next 2 or 3 days Mr. Darcy sees Elizabeth alone in the Collins home for a few minutes. Then Elizabeth finds out that it was because of Darcy that Mr. Bingley left Lounghborn. Elizabeth then goes over all the letters she’s received from Jane. Then Mr. Darcy proposes to Elizabeth, and she refuses, saying that he has caused misfortune for her sister and for Mr. Wickhum. Darcy then leaves a letter for Elizabeth the next day and he along with Fitzwilliam depart from Rosings. Then Elizabeth, and the Lucas’s leave Rosings and return to Lounghborn.

P and P #5.

In chapters 26-30 of Pride and Prejudice, Charlotte Lucas is married to Mr. Collins. The newly-weds soon leaves for Mr. Collins home in Kent. Later that year, during winter, Mrs. Bennet’s brother and sister-in-law Mr. And Mrs. Gardiner come to visit for the holidays. While staying there, Elizabeth and Mrs. Gardiner get into a heated conversation about Elizabeth being in love with Mr. Wickham. Elizabeth completely denies it. After the holidays, the Gardiners take Jane with them to London, so she might be able to see something of Mr. Bingley. During that time, Jane leaves with Mr. Lucas and his youngest daughter to go see Charlotte in Kent. When the trio arrives in Kent, they are immediately bombarded with all of Mr. Collins stupid blabber about Lady Catherine De Bourgh, and his house and garden. Eventually, Elizabeth is introduced to Lady Catherine and she is not impressed. Elizabeth also sees Mr. Darcy there, as well as Mr. Darcy’s friend, Cournal Fitzwilliam. Elizabeth then inquires about Jane being in London, and if Mr. Darcy had ever saw her. Mr. Darcy replies that he hadn’t.

Assignment # 11

I was very pleased with the outcome of this book. I thought that one of the best moments in these last two chapters is how Lady Catherine De Burgh’s plans were completely shut down. I think the only thing that I would have like to see changed was Mr. Bennett’s seriousness in the story. I thought that a lot of the decisions that he made in this story had a very large impact on certain events early and later on. But i'm still happy with the ending. I knew from day 1 that Jane and Bingley were going to get married and i’m happy that they finally did. But in the end I was somewhat surprised at the Elizabeth and Darcy marriage. Lydia and Wickham? Wow that was the most surprising of them all. But in the end I was happy that Darcy ended up with Elizabeth instead of Ms. Bingley. I do not like her.

assignment # 10

I don’t know whom lady Catherine de Bough thinks she is. She is so stuck up and conceited and she talks to Elizabeth as if she is stupid. She talks to her and seems surprised when she says something back. Lady Catherine seems very mad when Elizabeth responds to her. She just comes up to her house and starts yelling at her and telling her that she is selfish because if she ended up with Darcy she would taint the family name. The fact that Darcy likes Elizabeth is not even Elizabeth’s fault or any of lady Catherine de Bourgh's business. Lady Catherine is determined however, and demands to know if she is going to marry Darcy. Elizabeth refuses to answer her and says it is none of her business until finally she says she has no plans of marrying him, but refuses to promise that she will say no if he proposes again. I think this proves one of Jane Austen’s main points about society. She shows how people who have a lot of money think that other people who are not as fortunate are inferior to them and think that they can say and do whatever they want without anybody saying something back.

A11,P&P

I like the end conclusion with this enormous situation. I’m glad that Lizzy and Darcy get married along with Jane and Bingley. The two couples were just meant to be. I’m pretty sure people were confused or not to happy about Lizyy and Darcy’s marriage but who cares? They were happy so I would just let them be. Lady Catherine was not a happy camper but once again who cares what she thinks? Almost everyone has their fairytale ending and most people don’t. Jane got her wish granted and that was for Bingley to come back to her and he felt the same way so now they’re happy. And even though I don’t really approve, but Lydia pretty much got what she wanted and that was to be with Wickham. Lizzy found true love after all and so did Darcy. I think they would be together forever. Mrs. Bennet is just so overwhelmed that three of her daughters are married to good husbands, atleast two of them are. But she’s happy for that and its good to be happy for the family who had such a twisted story as far as dealing with marriage. This was a really good book. Jane Austen did a good job on this. It made me laugh a lot.

A10,P&P

I think Lizzy handled Lady Catherine’s conversations very well. She basically put her in her place. The only reason why she came to speak to Lizzy was because Mr. Darcy had more interest in Lizzy than his own cousin. So I believe that Lady Catherine was jealous of Lizzy whuch is why she “tried” to tell her off. I don’t think Lady Catherine had any right to tell Lizzy to stay away from Darcy she didn’t have any business with who Darcy wanted to marry at all. I’m really glad Darcy and Lizzy settled things between them and told each other how they felt. They can now enjoy each others company without having any grudges between the two and Lizzy doesn’t have a reason to dislike Darcy. And now they can enjoy each others company also because they simply found love between each other and that makes them feel good inside. Things even got so good that they are engaged which Is what I’ve been waiting for to happen throughout the whole story. They realized that they were just made for each other and I actually like them as a couple anyway. And with that said, that is a good thing.

Pride and Prejudice assignment 11

I like some aspects of the ending more then others. For example, I like the way that Lady Catherine's plans for Darcy to marry her daughter was completely out of the picture. Also, i think that it kind of in a way turned the book from a suspenseful book to, what I like to call a "Disney Ending". This ending was another, "and they lived happily ever after" ending, which was a little bit disappointing, but I guess the book was eventually leading to the moment that everyone gets married. Overall, i think that the book was very entertaining and straight to the point, unlike "Jane Eyre" which i like. Also, I like the way that Jane Austen writes the book as if these characters act like they're real people that make mistakes and don't always do the right thing, and are mischievous. For example, Wickham was a very bad villain, he took advantage of many girls, and then just kicked them to the curve, and always likes to seem like he's all innocent and he likes to say that he was the one with the bad childhood, when really, he had a lot of opportunities that he didn't take.

Pride and Prejudice assignment 10

I think that the conversation with Elizabeth and Lady Catherine, is very straight forward in the wishes of Lady Catherine. Also, i feel like it was more like a battle of wits between Lady Catherine and Lizzy, and i think that Lady Catherine felt very threatened by how much Elizabeth knew, and that made her even more uneasy. I think that Elizabeth handle it the best she could, because i would've done the same thing because Lady Catherine basically said that she doesn't want to be related to a lower-class family and that Darcy deserves a lot better then Elizabeth, and that's extremely rude to say to somebody, especially if you're in the person's home. So I think Elizabeth could have done a nicer job in saying what she said, but I can understand where she's coming from. I think that the conversation with Darcy and Elizabeth was a lot better then their old conversations. I feel this way because they were more flirtatious now and back when Elizabeth hated Darcy she would always try to say something rude or get angry at everything Darcy would say. I think they can enjoy each others company now because they love each other and they can understand each other a lot more then they used to.

Pride and Prejudice assignment 9

Elizabeth's opinion changed because she had just started liking Mr. Darcy a lot, but now she thinks that Darcy thinks that she's just another woman with a bad family that would disgrace his own if he was ever seen with the Bennets. I think that Lydia is very annoying because she was being very selfish by not caring about her family when she went running off with Mr. Wickham, and that just frustrates me because now the Bennets are suffering for her selfishness. I think that Mr. Bennet is somewhat responsible, or at least he feels that he's responsible because he didn't want to go to meet the officers with Lydia, and he didn't believe Elizabeth when she warned him that something was going to happen, and obviously now the Bennets are in a bad situation. I like the fact that Mr. Bingley came back for Jane, and i do think that they are a great match because they are both very laid back and calm, cool and collected. Also, they don't like to think bad of people without a strong reason, and even with a reason they don't like to bring out the best of people. I am definitely getting pulled into this book and can't wait to see what happens next.

Assignment # 9

I think Elizabeth is officially in love with Mr. Darcy. After some thinking she thinks that if he should propose to her again, she would say yes. Mr. Darcy is continuing to prove to be a worthy candidate and a good person overall. He was the person that found Lydia and Wickham in London, attended their wedding and paid off Wickham’s gambling debts and also gave him enough money to marry Lydia. This somewhat made the Bennet name less shameful. I think that the reason that he found them was because of the fact that he know's Mr. Wickham so well. This could seem like a strange way of dealing with someone who you despise, but I think he did it in order to help Mr. Bennet and also out of the love he has for Elizabeth. Lydia is an incredibly naive little girl who thinks she is the luckiest person alive. When she and Wickham paid their unwelcome visit to the Bennets’, she constantly actedas if her sisters were inferior to her now that she was the youngest and only Bennet daughter to be married. Seeing as Mr. Bennet was the one who agreed to send Lydia away with Mr. Wickham, he could be blamed for what happened, but I think he had better things in mind for his daughter and would never had expected for them to do such a thing. I am so glad that Jane and Bingley are finally together. I think they are very cute together and am glad that they have finally cleared up all the confusion made by his sisters and Darcy.

PP: Assignment 11

I was very pleased with the outcome of this book. I thought that one of the best moments in these last two chapters is how Lady Catherine De Bourge’s plans were completely shut down. I think the only thing that I would have like to see changed was Mr. Bennet’s seriousness in the story. I thought that a lot of the decisions that he made in this story had a very large impact on certain events early and later on. Two examples of this would be his decision to not meet Mr. Bingley when Mrs. Bennet( despite how agitating she can be sometimes) told him to. Had he actually met him things might have went differently, and not lead up to Mr. Darcy having to do what he did in separating Mr. Bingley and Jane. Another example was allowing Lydia, the youngest sister to leave despite Elizabeth’s warnings. I think this may have been the most pivotal decision he makes because of everything that happens following that. I think that if he had done the opposite of that, Lydia and Wickham would have never eloped, and Darcy would not have everything that he did to save their family. I liked this book for romance it was not so bad to read, an I enjoyed read about the influence that this book has continued to have on the literature world.

#11

I love the ending of the book and everyone gets what they deserve. Elizabeth and Jane find happiness in Darcy and Bingley and end up living well and comfortable with a lot of money when they get married which of course makes Elizabeth and Jane‘s mother very very happy. Lady Catherine De Bourgh learns that her opinion is not always wanted and listened to and ends up unhappy with her nephews marriage. Georgiana and Elizabeth become fast friends and get along great, and Lydia and Mr.Wickham continue to live apart from the family where Lydia can pretend that her marriage is perfect and that she is a perfect little wife. They continue to show up unexpectedly and ask for financial aid though, and become the disliked members of the family. Bingley grows to hate them too. Never the less, no family can be perfect and I guess they all have to have a black sheep. All in all, it’s a happy ending and I really enjoyed the book. Elizabeth depicts a wonderful example of a girl with a witty and headstrong personality in her time period who refuses to be the norm. She is a charming rebel in her own time period and a wonderful character who grows and develops throughout the story.

#10

I can not believe what Lady Catherine De Bourgh says to Elizabeth! She just comes up to her house and starts yelling at her and telling her that she is selfish because if she ended up with Darcy she would taint the family name. the fact that Darcy likes Elizabeth is not even Elizabeth’s fault, she did not even flirt with him. Lady Catherine is determined however, and demands to know if she is going to marry Darcy, Elizabeth teases her for a bit telling her that its none of her business but not responding with a yes or no until finally she says she has no plans of marrying him, but refuses to promise that she will say no if he proposes again. I think this proves one of Jane Austen’s main points about society. She depicts how people who have a lot of money think that other people who are not as fortunate are inferior to them and think that they can say and do whatever they want without any regard for other peoples feelings. Lady Catherine De Bourgh is really snooty and rude and fit’s the profile of someone who thinks she owns the world. All in all, I’m glad Elizabeth was the bigger person who could just turn her back and walk away.

#9

I would just like to say that I was always on Darcy’s side, he was my favorite character right from the beginning and through these last few chapters has proven himself to be a great guy under it all. He continues to have a distant attitude, but in my opinion uses this as a shield because he is so shy. I could not believe that he helped Elizabeth’s family out in such a huge way when Lydia got herself into a huge mess with Wickham, this is definite proof that he is still in love with Elizabeth. She on the other hand has fallen for him but misunderstands his actions as those of someone who is no longer interested. I love Elizabeth, but I think she really needs to get a clue. Lydia on the other hand, has lost all my support and interest, the way she acts at her parents house when she arrives after being married is unacceptable, does she not know what she has done and what she has cost her family?? Anyway, she needs a huge wake up call and I hope she ends up realizing what she has done and feels terrible about it. Jane continues to be her naïve, innocent self and eventually ends up with Bingley when he comes to visit without realizing any of the things that happened to stop her and Bingley from being together. All the mix up caused by Darcy and Bingley sisters is forgotten and they get engaged.

Assignment 11

Overall, I am very glad with how the book ends. I love that through the marriage of Bingley and Jane and Elizabeth and Darcy, all family and friends seem to come closer together and enjoy each others company... almost. It is a bit disappointing that Lydia and Mr. Wickham have continued to be separate from the rest of the family. They are still acting the same, asking for money and showing up unwelcomed so much that even Mr. Bingley is growing tired of them. It is also a little disappointing that Lady Catherine de Bourgh is still holding a grudge against Elizabeth and Darcy for going against her wishes, although it seems she has lightened up a little bit. I’m glad that Elizabeth is also getting along with her new sister in law, Georgiana. Even though some of the characters are still negative influences, I suppose it is expected of them. They are all either too conceited or young and stupid to notice or care to change their ways. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed reading this novel and I think I got a lot out of it. Besides learning the text, I was also able to learn a lot about the woman who wrote this fantastic book and see her personality shine through the words.

Assignment 10

I was not expecting the conversation between Lady Catherine de Bourgh and Elizabeth to take place and was surprised at how forthright Lady Catherine was at telling Elizabeth upfront that she would by no means necessary marry Mr. Darcy. She was very nasty and openly told Elizabeth how he and his cousin were meant to be married since birth and demanded to know if they were planning on marrying. Elizabeth was very good at keeping her ground though, and told her very plainly that no one was to make that decision for her. This adds to my love for Elizabeth, proving herself a strong, capable woman who doesn’t take anything from anyone. Finally, Elizabeth and Darcy both reveal their love for one another! After all that each of them have been through, all the pain they each caused each other, they have finally realized they belong together. I think they both have grown significantly as people and have matured a lot since they first met. Darcy has become more responsible through his love for Elizabeth, and has made many sacrifices for her. Elizabeth has grown from being quick to judge to a slightly more relaxed woman, I think, and has realized all that Darcy has done for her and greatly appreciates that.

Assignment 9

I think Elizabeth is officially madly in love with Mr. Darcy. After much thought and consideration, she thinks that if he should propose to her again, she would say yes. Mr. Darcy is continuing to prove to be a worthy candidate and a good person overall. He was actually the person to find Lydia and Wickham in London, attended their wedding and paid off Wickham’s gambling debts and also gave him enough money to marry Lydia. This could seem like a strange way of dealing with someone who you despise, but I think he did it in order to help Mr. Bennet and also out of love for Elizabeth. Lydia is an incredibly naive little girl who thinks she is the luckiest person alive. When she and Wickham paid their unwelcome visit to the Bennets’, she constantly chided her siblings for being inferior to her now that she was the youngest and only Bennet daughter to be married. Seeing as Mr. Bennet was the one who agreed to send Lydia away with Mr. Wickham, he could be blamed for what happened, but I think he had better things in mind for his daughter and would never had expected for them to do such a thing. I am so glad that Jane and Bingham are finally together. I think they are very cute together and am glad that they have finally cleared up all the confusion made by his sisters.

Assignment 8

Elizabeth learns that her youngest sister Lydia has ran away with Mr. Wickham and that they are most likely not married yet. They are thought to have gone to London, and Mr. Bennet has left to find them.  They are all very upset because having run away and not being married is very much looked down upon and the Bennet’s are afraid of what this may cause their reputation to turn out to be. The circumstances are also very unusual, seeing as Lydia can not provide any money to Wickham and everyone knows that is all he is interested in. When Elizabeth finds out, she runs outside to find her uncle but is confronted by a very concerned Mr. Darcy. She starts crying hysterically and tells him what happened. He was very sweet to her and they seemed to have something of a bonding at that moment. Darcy, however, feels that he is only in the way of the family and leaves. Now that this scandal is out in the open, I think Darcy’s distasteful feelings towards Wickham are very much justified now and I think he has Elizabeth’s full support now. The situation goes to show how Mrs. Bennet’s character is somewhat single minded when it comes to her daughters. Elizabeth and her father are both very upset at the news of Lydia and Wickham’s rendezvous. However, her mother is overwhelmed with joy that her youngest daughter will be the first of her children to marry, which adds to her foolish and ditsy personality.

Assignment 7

When Elizabeth visits Mr. Darcy’s estate, his housekeeper gives them a tour and goes on about how nice Darcy is the whole time and how he is the best master in the world. We learn that Darcy and Wickham were childhood friends and as a young boy, Darcy was very kind and warm hearted. While touring the grounds, Mr. Darcy shows up unannounced and Elizabeth is very embarrassed to be seen there after what happened between them. He however, is very kind to her and asks if she would like to meet his sister. She obliges, and the next day they meet. I have always been somewhat fond of Mr. Darcy and I am glad that the nasty accusations put against him have been cleared. I think his and Elizabeth’s relationship is quickly evolving into something more than just friendship, but with some rocky happenings in between. I am glad to see that Elizabeth isn’t keeping such a tight grudge against Mr. Darcy now and is starting to understand his side of the story.

Assignment 6

In the letter Mr. Darcy leaves for Elizabeth to read, he writes that he purposely drove Bingley away from Jane because of her lacking any wealth, and also because he did not think she was that interested in him in the first place because she was always very quiet and seemingly uninterested around Bingley. I can see how Darcy would do this for the benefit of his friend, but I still think it was none of his business to get involved. He also writes about Mr. Wickham, who lied to Elizabeth about Darcy not giving him any money. Darcy in fact did give him 3,000 pounds, which Wickham quickly spent away. After denying him any more money, Wickham then turned to Darcy’s younger sister and attempted to marry her in order to inherit her large dowry. This is very shocking news to Elizabeth and she was very upset that she was fooled. After thinking about it for a while though, she comes to realize how it actually makes sense and that she is grateful Wickham went off again to war. Mr. Darcy’s proposal was almost equally as bad as Mr. Collins, telling Elizabeth how he loved her but had put off the proposal because of her much lower status in class and lack of money, and how her entire family was an embarrassment.

Assignment 5

The humor in Mr. Collins and Lady Catherine de Bourgh is that they are the quintessential sort of Orange County housewives of their day. They are incredibly rich, snobby, judgemental people who believe anyone lower than them in the social class is unworthy of their precious time. I think what Jane Austen was trying to get to is that these people, who think they are just the bee’s knees, are actually an embarrassment to themselves and to the overall appearance of the upper class. Jane Austen manages to make it funny by making these two characters as ridiculous as they can be. Mr. Collins and especially Lady Catherine de Bourgh view themselves as very distinguished, precocious people, who in a way are, but they display the bad side to it all. Mr. Collins is more of a simple-minded man who loves to show off everything and talk his head off. He absolutely adores Lady Catherine and seems to be almost obsessed with her. Lady Catherine on the other hand is I think fairly smarter than Mr. Collins, but has her head so far up her own butt that she isn’t able to pull off any acts of kindness or sympathy whatsoever

Assignment 4

So far I am really enjoying the book. At first, it was hard for me to figure out who was who and what exactly was going on but now I think I have a pretty good idea of what is happening. One character I really dislike is Bingley’s sister, Caroline. She is a conniving, jealous woman who is only interested in herself and making the lives of other people miserable. It made me very angry when she sent Jane those letters that were discouraging her to have an interest in Mr. Bingley. She lied to Jane saying that they would be away in London all winter and that Bingley had his eye on Mr. Darcy’s sister, just because she didn’t want her brother to get involved with Jane. I was also very surprised that Elizabeth’s friend Charlotte so readily accepted the proposal of Mr. Collins, not out of love, but for the sake of comfort. I agree with Elizabeth that her decision was very stupid and that she has basically cursed herself in having any happiness in her marriage, or life really. I am hoping that Jane can see through Caroline’s deceit and that Charlotte wakes up and realizes the choice she has made.

Assignment 3

Mr. Collins might be the most absurd character in any book I have ever read. He is incredibly pompous and thinks of very highly of himself and Lady Catherine De Bourgh. He doesn’t seem to be the brightest man but still feels it necessary to give his full opinion on everything. I don’t think he poses any threat to Darcy’s heart, as Elizabeth seems to really detest the idea of Mr. Collins. Mr. Wickham seems to be a nice guy who is obviously attracted to Elizabeth. I find it strange though that he and Mr. Darcy dislike each other so much and that they both have different stories to tell about each other. They both make the other person out to be bad and I am interested in seeing how the truth comes about. I think he definitely poses a threat to Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth because she seems to like Mr. Wickham much more than Darcy. However, with Mr. Darcy being around, Mr. Wickham seems to not want to show his face so as long as Mr. Darcy keeps hanging around the Bennets’ and company, Wickham will not be so imposing on Elizabeth.

A9,P&P

I believe Lizzy is falling for Mr. Darcy now. She’s realizing her feelings for him are getting stronger and in fact she does have love for him. I think that is so because since everything is happening, Darcy is really innocent and he shows he doesn’t want any confusion which is why I think he paid Wickham his money, he was just helping out Mr. Benett. Ever since Lydia married Mr. Wickham, there has been tension between her and her sisters. Her attitude has changed and she’s even got conceited and thinks that she can trash talk Jane just because she’s the youngest and the first one to be married off to what she calls “one of the most handsome men in England”. Personally, Lydia is stupid for thinking that because I think her sisters are making fun of the fact that her husband is nothing but a thoughtless pig but of course she doesn’t see that because she’s young and immature. Now if Mr. Bennett didn’t let her go to Meryton she wouldn’t have run off in the first place which is why he should have listened to Lizzy. I am glad that things finally got straight between Jane and Mr. Bingley because I like them as a couple. I was excited when they were engaged and yes, I do think they are a good match. I’m pretty sure Bingley’s sister will be upset once she finds this out. And this is a much better engagement than Lydia’s.

Assignment 2

So far in the book, I am really enjoying learning about Elizabeth and her family. She is quite the opposite from them it seems, being very headstrong and realizing that there are more important things in life than marriage. She is always sure of her opinion and shares it frequently. I like that she doesn’t care what other people think and has a mind of her own, which seems to be something most Elizabethan women lack. It is also nice to see that she is incredibly loyal to her sister Jane and will do just about anything to help her. When Jane falls sick at Netherfield, Elizabeth walks several miles to give her aid and is made fun of when she arrives for being covered in dirt and mud but doesn’t seem to mind. I am surprised to find that Mr. Darcy develops feelings for Elizabeth so early on in the book. I am also curious to see how the inheritance of the Bennet property will follow through, seeing as none of Mr. Bennets daughters or his wife are allowed to have any of it because it has to be passed down to a male.

A8,P&P

Elizabeth finds out that Lydia ran off with Mr. Wickham to London and is planning on getting married. I think this is such a big deal because it then puts the Bennet family to shame because of Lydia’s choice. It affects everybody especially Lizzy, Jane and Mr. Bennet. It affects Jane and Lizzy because that’s their baby sister and more importantly because they know about Wickhams past and his intentions so they feel that it’s their fault that she’s gone. I think they should’ve said something regardless if they were sure or not, because that would give everybody a heads up on him. It affects Mr. Bennet because he knew if he didn’t let Lydia go to Meryton, this whole thing wouldn’t have happened in the first place. I do think that Mr. Bennet should’ve listened to Lizzy who she told him not to let her go and I think he realized that that was his mistake. Now Lizzy finally understands why Darcy has so much against Wickham and I think he has the right to. Darcy decides to give Wickham his money instead of Gardiner because he feels more responsible for Wickhams actions and is doing it out of respect. That also helps Mr. Bennet because now he doesn’t have to pay back Mr. Gardiner. I don’t understand why he would do that though because if I were Darcy, I would’ve snitched on Wickham. I think everybody with exception of Mrs. Bennet is pretty upset about the fact that Lydia has still proceeded to get married to him. Of course, Mrs. Bennet is all happy pappy about it and I think she’s crazy because I wouldn’t let my fifteen-year-old daughter run off and get married.

A7,P&P

We find that Mr. Darcy and Mr. Wickham had a dark past together. Wickham was taken in by Darcy’s father and cared for him up until his death. Apparently, Wickham betrayed Darcy’s father pretending to become either a preacher or minister. He then tries to trick Mr. Darcy’s baby sister into running off to get eloped but she didnt know that he wanted to marry her for her fortune so he can run off with it. Which made Mr. Darcy extremely upset. I think Elizabeth was extremely shocked that she was speechless about it. I dont think she would have expected Wickham to have such behavior like he does now. She believes Darcy because she knows despite his attituide he wouldnt lie about something like that and thats when her feelings for him begin to show. I think when Darcy and Lizzy see each other at his estate they don’t know what to say because they didn’t expect to see each other. But I do know that deep down inside they were both happy to see each other and i thought that was a good thing.

Assignment # 8

The news that Elizabeth gets in the letter from Jane, is that Mr. Wickham and their youngest sister Lydia have run off together. This is very bad news because, as soon as Lydia and Mr. Wickham were in the same carriage they shamed the Bennet family. The reaction she gets from Mr. Darcy when she tells him this news makes Lizzy think that she's never going to see Mr. Darcy again, because she thinks that he doesn't want anything to do with her family because if the position they are in. The details told by Darcy about Mr. Wickham say that Wickham isn't going to marry Lydia and that he's just going to take advantage of her, like he did to Mr. Darcy's sister. I think that it's very clear that Mr. Darcy pretty much hates Wickham because he not only shamed the Darcy family, but now he's going to take advantage of 16 year old Lydia and shame the Bennet family. Mr. Bennet goes to London to go find Lydia, Mrs. Bennet wont leave her room because she is too sad. And i think that Lizzy, Jane, and Mary are ashamed of her. And last but not least I think Kitty knew this was going to happen and thats why she dosent have that much of a reaction.

Assignment # 7

We find out that Mr. Wickham and Mr. Darcy are enimies and Mr. Darcy does not like him bacause of they way he did his sister. In my opinion Mr. Darcy has every reason not to like him. And since Mr. Darcy told his story i have believed him and been on his side. The house keeper or maid or w/e she is tells us that they use to be very close as kids and grew up together and she confirms Mr. Darcy's story and proves that Mr. Wickham was lying. Lizzy's reaction is shock yet sort of a i knew it. I think that the interactions between Mr. Darcy and Lizzy prove that they like each other. he even invites her back to meet his sister but ends up showing up at her house with Mr. Bingley and his sister, the young Ms. Darcy. I think it is very obvious that Mr. Bingley still has feelings for Jane. But in my opinion he seems a little to happy to see Lizzy.

PP: Assignment 10

I thought these chapters showed the growth in Elizabeth. I thought that her conversation with Lady Catherine De Bourgh was an indication of her seeing herself for the way she has done things n the past. I was actually surprised by what she said to Lady Catherine, as well as how she handled it. I actually liked it because rather than respond to her the way she did when they first met, she really left Lady Catherine confused and unable to say anything to her. I was curious as to how Darcy and Elizabeth would react once they had a chance to talk to each other following the recent incident with their sister. I think what surprised me the most is that she actually told him how she felt that she would accept another proposal from him. I think that the whole fiasco involving Mr. Wickham caused Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy to come closer due to their relationships with him. As a result of this they began to show different emotions and feelings towards another, drawing them into each other. I think because of the way they acted towards each other during that time, they can enjoy each others company now because they know how they really feel about each other.

A6,P&P

Elizabeth probably thought he sabotaged her sister’s engagement because of him and Elizabeth not liking each other and he just did it out of misery. She was a little upset when she found out about it because of the fact that was her sister and she was closest with her the most and it hurt her a lot. That was why she thought he was being cruel about it. Now I will say I knew Mr. Darcy’s feelings for Jane were going to come around eventually but I didn’t think he was gonna go all out and propose to her not knowing what kind of feelings she was having towards him. Honestly, I don’t know if I would or could accept a proposal like that. It would have to depend on how I’m feeling about that person. When Elizabeth receives a letter from Darcy, she finds out that Darcy and Wickham had a dark past together. Apparently, Mr. Wickham tried to marry Mr. Darcy’s sister for her fortune. She is extremely shocked to the point that she didn’t know what to say about it. I think she was at loss for words because she tried to make Mr. Darcy mad by almost falling for Wickham.

A5,P&P

Mr. Collins is such a sissy to me; sometimes I do think it’s funny to watch him in action. Every time he brings up Lady Catherine de Bourgh it annoys me. He treats her like she’s a shrine or something way more important than a church and he adores her too much. You don’t know what to expect of her but you think she is the type of person who doesn’t take nonsense from anybody and has her facts straight. But in my opinion, she seems like a bitter old lady who always has her nose in someone else’s business. And she’s always criticizing someone or something for no apparent reason. She and Mr. Collins act just the same when it comes to certain things. I think they are both stuck up and think that what they say is more important than anybody else. I believe Jane Austen is making them think that they are the most important people in their estates and everybody loves being around them when really people think they are a complete bore, especially Mr. Collins. I think she manages to make it funny by having them say some of the most ridiculous things and how people like Elizabeth would react to what they say.

PP:Assignment 9

I think that based on these past few chapters alone it is clear why Elizabeth’s feelings have changed so significantly. I think in the last couple of chapters Mr. Darcy began to change in a way that had a major influence on Elizabeth. One of the main examples of that came in chapter 51, where she actually begins to want to marry him, and hopes that he does propose to her. I thought that the more this chapter progressed; it seemed to put things in perspective for her as well as myself. I could not believe the way both Lydia and Mr. Wickham were acting. I think I can excuse Lydia to an extent because of how young she is. However, I have completely disowned Mr. Wickham as the good guy in the story, he has completely switched roles I the story. I think that Mr. Bennet has had a tremendous impact on this part in the story. I think I liked his “approach” to things usually, but he seemed a little too lax in certain situations, mainly this one. I think if he had listened to Elizabeth, rather than send Lydia off, none of this would have happened. As far as Jane and Bingley’s engagement, I think it could work out; it is hard for me to say because they were distant from each other so long. Now that things seem to be going well for Jane, I am curious to see what happens with Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy.

P + P assignment 8

The news that Elizabeth gets about Darcy, is that Mr. Wickham and her sister Lydia run off together, and this is very bad news because, as soon as they were in the same carriage they shamed the Bennet family, and also this news makes Lizzy think that she's never going to see Mr. Darcy ever again because she thinks that he doesn't want anything to do with a family that is in the same position that hers is. The details told by Darcy about Mr. Wickham say that Wickham isn't going to marry Lydia and he's just going to take advantage of her, like he did to Mr. Darcy's sister. I think that it's very clear that Mr. Darcy pretty much hates Wickham because he not only shamed the Darcy family, but now he's going to take advantage of 16 year old Lydia and shame the Bennet family. so this book is getting very exciting and really gets your adrenalin pumping to see what's going to happen now that Mr. Bennet is sent to London to go find Lydia, even though he probably wont.

P + P assignment 7

We find out that Mr. Wickham was very rude as a kid and Mr. Darcy always had good manners towards every one. Elizabeth's reaction was major shock, she never would've guessed that Mr. Darcy would have good manners towards his servants, who are of a very low class. I think that the interactions between Elizabeth and Darcy are very well planned out, i mean how smooth is it as an author to put this coincidence where Mr. Darcy is coming home a day early and Elizabeth just happens to be going the same direction that Darcy is coming from, i think that it's pure genius. Although, i have to say that the relationship starting to grow between Darcy and Elizabeth are going to make this story end more happily and I'm going to miss the harsh comments made by both Lizzy and Darcy.

P + P assignment 6

Elizabeth thinks that Mr. Darcy sabotaged Jane's chances to marry MR. Bingley because when Lizzy and Fitzwilliams and her were walking in the feild, he tells her that Mr. Darcy saved Bingley from a terrible marriage that never would've worked out. Mr. Darcy's proposal was both a little bit sweet, and harsh at the same time. It was sweet because he was saying things like "I Love you", but it was harsh because he first said that his and her social class were heavily separated and that would probably bring shame upon his family because Lizzy's sisters are very embarrassing and that she is basically this poor woman that has nothing to give him in return to his hand in marriage. I personally wouldn't accept a proposal like that because he both complimented and insulted her all at the same time and those don't just cancel out, the insults hurt more then compliments feel good. When Mr. Darcy writes the letter to Lizzy, he tells her that Mr. Wickham is the one that did things wrong, and shamed the Darcy family. He says that Mr. Wickham tricked Darcy's sister into thinking that he loved her, but he only wanted to marry for fortune and when he found out he wouldn't get any money he kicked her to the curve and decided that he didn't love her anymore.

PP: Assignment 8

I must say out of all of the surprising changes all throughout the story that have all been caused from letters, I think that these letters were the most surprising and controversial so far. I think I was just as surprised as Elizabeth was once she read the first letter. I was completely not expecting to know that Lydia and Mr. Wickham were eloping. The second letter was a big deal because she found out that they had not married yet. In addition to that, if they did not marry, then the already tarnished reputation that her family has would be completely ruined. However, the more I thought about it, I was not as surprised. Thinking back to how thoughtless Lydia is in general, even for someone her age, it did not surprise that she would run off with a man with a very shady history. I think the main thing that surprised me the most is how much of a bad guy Mr. Wickham is turning out to be. It is almost as if he and Mr. Darcy have switched roles in the story. I could not believe that he was classified as a womanizer to some degree. I always liked Mr. Darcy and understood why he did not like Mr. Wickham based on what happened with Georgiana, but now I think his feelings are completely justified. I am very curious to see what Mr. Darcy does, considering the sly guy he is.

A4,P&P

I am liking the book so far. I really like Elizabeth’s personality and i do enjoy her and Mr.Darcy’s ongoing feud. I noticed that Mr.Darcy is starting to have second thoughts on Lizzy and maybe even has some slight feelings for her. I like Mr.Darcy’s character because he looks like a mean person but he’s really nice once you get to know him. The book is really funny and I love Mr.Bennet’s sarcasm and the way he reacts to Mrs.Bennet and her overreactions it just makes them such a funny couple to watch. The book is very upbeat and everyone seems happy all the time. The Bennet family are not your ordinary family and it kind of makes them unique in a weird way. And there are plenty of famlies like that. Each person has their own personality to them for instance, Lydia and Kitty are the two out of control ones and Mary is a little bookworm. Jane is the calm one and Elizabeth is the smart one. This is definately a better book than Jane Eyre because there are no sad stories and everyone is living their life good.

A3,P&P

I think Mr.Collins is a sissy and is truly annoying. He talks too much too. Everythime he says something, he feels he has to add on to it so that he is constantly talking and it annoys everyone, yet he doesnt realize that he has that kind of affect on people. Mr.Collins also has this thing where he feels what he says is so important that he sometimes ignores what other people say as well. I predicted him to be sort of snobbish and stuck up but I was surprised when i realized what type of person he was. Mr.Wickham seems like a nice man but we don’t know that for sure. He does seem like a gentleman but he also looks like a ladies man too. Elizabeth takes him for being nice and a very charming person and she starts taking a quick interest once she realices the looks that are exchanged between Darcy and Wickham. Darcy however, is not too happy to see Wickham’s face and is getting upset which makes me wonder if something had happened between them or not.

PP: Assignment 7

I think that the more the book continues to go more in depth, the more unexpected things start to happen. I think that Elizabeth is constantly making quick assumptions about some of the men in the story. One man in particular in Mr. Darcy. I think that she always seems to have ideas about the type of person he is based off of scattered experiences that had with him. Due to this prejudiced view of him, I try to give Mr. Darcy the benefit of the doubt. However, I was totally not expected the accusations against him to actually be correct. I think I was even more surprised because he actually had the nerve to propose to her. Then again, love makes people do some crazy things. I think that upon receiving the letter, I understood what he was trying to say. However, in the process of doing so, Elizabeth begins to have second thoughts about Wickham and Mr. Darcy. She seemed to understand the letter and read it with acceptance. I was actually surprised to see her take the letter considering what had happened when Mr. Darcy proposed to her. I think the thing that I am most curious to know about now is how this is going to have an impact on the rest of the story. I think that it won’t be long before something else happens to cause more of Elizabeth’s feelings to fluctuate in the story.

Assignment # 6

Elizabeth thinks Mr. Darcy sabotaged her sister Jane's chances of marring Mr. Bingley because of the economic difference. In my opinion I think Mr. Darcy's proposal could have and should have been a little more emotional and romantic and a little more from the heart. If I was ever proposed to like that I think I would be greatly offended. I would not accept that proposal because if they can not act like they care enough to give me a good proposal then I wouldnt want to marry them. Darcy reveals that he and Wickham grew up together and when Mr. Darcy's father died he wanted Mr. Wickham to become a minister but Mr. Wickham had other plans with his life. He took his share of the money and left. Then he came back a couple years later. And professed(?) his love for Ms. Darcy. He pretended to be in love with her while she actually fell in love with him. they were engaged to be married but when he found out she wasn't going to be getting any money, he left her.

Assignment 10 -- Chapts 56-59 OR V: III, Chpts 13-16

Write a 200 word blog considering the following questions: What do you think about the conversation/confrontation between Elizabeth and Lady de Bourgh? Do you think Elizabeth handled it well? #7

I am totally shocked by what just happened, I always thought Lydia to be kind of wacky and crazy but never expected her to pull a stunt like this. So, Jane writes to Elizabeth and tells her that their sister Lydia has run away with Mr. Wickham! Apparently, he worked his “hardworking little victim” act on her and she totally bought into it. They left without anyone but Kitty knowing and decided they were going to get married. This is even more surprising because Lydia’s family does not have all that much money, so Wickham would get nothing out of marrying her. This is quite unlike his character as we already know, he is a gold digger and would not benefit at all from Lydia. As Jane continues in her letter, everyone is looking for Lydia and desperate to find her. She old them she was going to one place, but them her parents find out she had intentions of going to another. I guess she was just trying to confuse them. Anyway, when Elizabeth reads this she get hysterical and fears for her sister. Mr. Darcy then comes to the rescue, and while Elizabeth goes through her panic attack, he is there for her and it is a lovely little bonding experience for the both of them as Mr. Darcy shows a little of his sensitive side and takes some blame for not warning the family of the “evil Wickham”. the matter is the somewhat solved by the unfortunate marriage of Lydia to Wickham and the family continues with heavy hearts.

#7

I always liked Mr. Darcy, right from the beginning, and with the conclusion of these chapters, my sentiments have remained unchanged. Wickham had never really caught my interest and I can honestly say that I never really liked his character. His generic polite and perfect disposition along with his constant mentioning of his unfortunate past led me to think something was just not right about him; he seemed so determined to please everyone and have their approval. I am glad the Elizabeth finally learned the truth about her favored knight in shining armor. Poor Mr. Darcy had been unfairly and unjustly accused, and is the real victim in this situation. Just because he is not the most social person in the world does not mean he is necessarily a bad guy, and polite Mr. Wickham turned out to have the mal, greedy intentions in this story. This just goes to prove to not judge a book by its cover. As for Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy, I most definitely think that their relationship is slowly but surely improving, and can not wait till they finally decide to get together. They can actually talk to each other now, and I am very proud of their improvements.

Assignment # 5

The humor of Mr. Collins and Lady Catherine de Bourgh, is that they are very clueless. They don't seem to be very smart and they like to criticize people that are not as well off as they are. It is funny to me because they say such stupid things. Jane Austen might have been criticizing the stubbornness and snootiness that people of that era would have if they were wealthy. Jane Austen is criticizing about the way that Mr. Collins and Lady Catherine aren't very smart and yet they like to show off their money and they like to call out people that aren't very rich. I found that very stubborn of them and prejudice because they don't know much about these people and they go off expecting that the lower class is stupid, and dirty. Lady Catherine de Bourgh, who especially thinks she is so much better than everyone, is not very happy when Jane actually says something back to her. Something else I think that Jane Austen was criticizing is that some wealthy people just are not very smart, and some are prejudice of lower class people because they think that they are superior to everyone without much money.

Assignment # 4

What i like about this book so far is that it's a book that grabs my attention and keeps it by adding humerus topics and making fun of the society in that era. Also, Jane Austen was pretty bold to make fun of society and call out the rules that people in that era were used to by making one of the main female characters, Lizzy, be so witty and smart. Also at the beginning of "Pride and Prejudice", she says that a man with a lot of money MUST be looking to get married. I think she wrote this because in that era most woman could not marry for love. Because if they did they wouldn't be able to live very well. Another thing I like about this book is the way that Jane Austen describes the characters. Unlike Charlotte Bronte, Jane Austen uses dialog instead of long paragraphs to describe her characters. She lets you make your own impressions while Charlotte Bronte gave you an opinion. Also, the way that Darcy starts out thinking that Elizabeth was just stupid, dumb, and not pretty and changes pretty quickly into thinking, maybe there's more to that girl, and wow she has some pretty eyes. So overall I think that this book is a lot more fun to read then "Jane Eyre" because of the happiness shared in this book and the way Mr. Bingley behaves all the time.

Assignment 8 -- Chpts 46-50 OR VIII: 4-8

Write a 250 word blog considering the following questions: What is the shocking news that Elizabeth receives in a letter from Jane? Why is this such a big deal? What are the details of Wickham's past that are revealed? Do you think the fact that Darcy doesn't like him is now justified? How is the situation "resolved"? How do a variety of different characters feel about that resolution -- Mrs. Bennett, Mr. Bennett, Elizabeth?

Assignment 9 -- Chpts 51-55 OR VIII: 9-12

Write 250 words considering the following questions: Why has Elizabeth's opinion of Mr. Darcy changed? What do you think of Lydia and Mr. Wickham now? Do you think Mr. Bennett is in any way responsible for what's happened? Why or why not? And what are your thoughts about Jane's engagement? Are they a good match?

What do we find out about Wickham and Darcy? What is Elizabeth's reaction? And what do you think of the interactions between Darcy and Elizabeth on his estate?
